Pork Belly Cooked 3 Wey

Today while I was at work, I was thinking to myself.. what can I do with the slab of pork belly at home...I want something yummy and beautiful!!!

The thing is.. I can only use whatever ingredients we have at home...
Then I thought.. I can do so many things with pork belly! Since it's only Joe and I are eating, I can divide the belly pork and make everything smaller portion! I'm genius hahahaha :D

Got home and told Joe about my idea and here we go! 3 dishes! All using 1 main ingredient! He cooked and I'm the helper! He is a better cook than I am that's why :P

Tadaa!

Pork Belly Cooked 3 Way Wey!
We got..
the Korean way - Kimchi Radish Pork Belly
the Chinese way - Dao Yiu Ba (Thicken Soya Sauce Pork Belly)
and...
the Western way - Roast Pork with Crispy skin

and I nom the whole lot! mmmmmm... DIRICIOUSSSSS :D~

Something for Everyone :)

Dinner @ P'tite Ardoise Bistro, Highgate

P'tite Ardoise Bistro is absolutely my good find of the week! I drove passed last week and saw the used to be German Restaurant-Alt Heidelberg then a Steak House-Beaufort St Steak House is now a French Bistro-P'tite Ardoise! Excited to see a new restaurant open up again and I can be sure this one is going to be here VERY VERY LONG!! :D

Joe and I went there with friends last Friday and it was packed! Crazily busy!! We book for 8.30pm dinner. When we were at our table waiting for our food, we still see people coming in for dinner and that was around 9.30pm!

Entree:

Warm Scallop Crab and Herbs Timbale with Mussel and Cockles Safranes

Soup of the Day : Sweet potato with pistachio

Snails Cooked My Way

Entrees were good. I like the Warm Scallop Crab and Herbs Timbale with Mussel and Cockles Safranes then the Snails and then least of all, sweet potato soup. Unfortunately, the soup was a bit bland that night.

As for the Mains, we had..

Casserole of the Day
Lamb shoulder, duck, pork and sausages

Fillet mignon
WA beef tenderlion wrapped in straky bacon, fondant potato, shiraz just and bearnaise

Roast Chicken lef on Mash potato, jerusalem artichoke, tarragon sauce

Slow cooked beef cheek on mash, lentil de puy, braising jus

and some vegetables to share.

We were very impressed by the mains that we had! It was delicious! Joe had the Casserole and he absolutely loves it! The texture of the meat was beautiful, they cooked it just right, the meat just falls off the bone, the white beans gives the dish the earthy flavour, and with the breadcrumbs and cheese, it lifts the dish even better.
I had a bite of the Mignon and Beef Cheeks, it was cooked beautifully! Tasty and juicy!
As for my Roast Chicken, I love the tender meat inside and crispy skin on the outside. Tarragon sauce go so well with the mash and chicken. I wish I had more sauce!

Last but not least.. Dessert... :)

Poire Belle Helene
Poached pear served with chocolate sauce and ice cream

Creme Brulee

Desserts were to die for! I love love love the Creme Brulee! The best I've ever tried!! Love the little bitterness of the burnt sugar!! Okay, lets not say burnt :P but torched! A mouthful of the sugar crust and creme.... OMG it's so good! I love it!

Overall, I love this place! While I was in there, I felt like I'm in Paris! Waiters speaking French, some customers speaking French, French decorations everywhere! Service was okay, took them 20-30 minutes to take our orders probably because it's just too busy. Seating wise, the tables were too close together, my friends need to squeeze between the tables to get out. Not classy yea. :P
and food, it was great! from Entree (So-so) to Mains ( Nice!) to Dessert (OMG SO YUM!)

I am definitely going back there again as they change their menu quite often. Oh and I forgot to tell you they have 2 menus, Classics and Daily Menu. Check out their menu on their website!

Postcard from my blog buddy Lillian

Such a great feeling when I got a postcard from my blog buddy Lillian last week!

We know each other through our blogs! She has a crafty blog call A Brewing Mind and I have a foodie/everything else blog :P

How did we know each other?
It was back in September 2010, Lillian commented on one of my post which is the post about City of Bloom. I clicked on her blog to see who she was and from then on, I read her blog daily. I became her dedicated follower! :D

Both of us have quite a few things in common :) She loves baking (I do too~!) She loves crafts (Me too! Me too!) and we both love sharing pretty and happy things!! She is a very nice and friendly girl although I haven't met her before haha :P I can sense it!
Ohhhmmmmm~! hehe kidding

I can't believe we've known each other for a year!! Felt like just months ago!

Oh anyway, I think I'm a bit out of the topic here.. :P
The reason why she sent me a postcard it is because she went to USA for a few weeks with her bestie for a holiday!!! Jealousssss... I did asked her to packed me along.. but I was too late..

Thanks Lillian for the postcard! I will send you one next time if I ever travel to other countries! :P

Dinner @ Nobu, Crown Casino

This post is super late and I've probably forgotten how every dishes taste like now but I am still going to put the pictures up here since I've already taken photos of every dishes. :)

New restaurant in Burswood, as usual, very very beautiful entrance! Elegant and classy!
But was thinking how difficult it is to clean those beautiful balls!

This is the Sushi bar. There's around 4 or 5 sushi chef at the sushi bar. If I'm really rich one day, I will sit at the sushi bar and have all the sushi in the menu! :D If!

Now, because I've kinda forgotten how most dishes taste like (it was 3 weeks ago), I will just named the dishes (probably there will be 1 or 2 that is incorrect :P forgive me!) and I will let you know which are my favourite dishes!

As a foodie, it is better for you to go with some friends, that way you can try as much dishes as you can! I went there with 5 of my girl friends and it was great! We've tried so many dishes and I felt satisfied! :D

The menu goes from Cold to Hot then Sweets.
For the Cold Section, we've tried 4 different dishes. They were all great.
They were mostly sour/salty light dishes which is appetizing and makes you ready for the heavier meal. I like it :)

Salted Edamame

New Style White Fish

Salmon Dry Miso

Spicy Miso Chips Ocean Trout

Tuna Tataki with Tosazu

and now for the Hot Dishes. We had 7 dishes with 2 plates of sushi.

Salmon Skin Salad <-- Love this. :D

Scallops with Spicy Garlic Sauce

Tasmanian Ocean Trout with Crispy Spinach

Creamy spicy crab

Seafood Tobanyaki

Oven roasted pork belly with caramalised miso

The Very Famous Black Cod Miso. $46
Good Cod honestly, but the price is a bit of a killer :P
All of us love this Black Cod Miso!

House special maki sushi roll

Some kind of Pineapple shot on the house :)

Desserts!!! Yes! Every one loves desserts!! I always think that dessert will be the one or most of the time anyway, that determines if the restaurant gives a good impression or worth coming back. To me, yes. I love their dessert especially this one below.

Ichigo Pannacotta with Yuzu Granita
It's refreshing, delicious and packed full of flavour!

Bento box with green tea ice cream and goma tuille
Love the Chocolate Fondant. Really good!

Miso Cappuccino with Vanilla Ice cream and Cappucino Foam

Banana Harumaki with Goma Ice Cream and Passionfruit Coulis

Satandagi filled with White Chocolate and Ginger, Coffee Ice Cream and Raspberry Coulis

Soya Sauce Ice Cream
All of us was impressed with this. Never imagine Soya Sauce can be used in making ice cream!

Overall, we enjoyed dining at Nobu, service was very friendly. One thing I'm not used to it was most of the waitresses/waiters looked a bit too young for a fine dining place like Nobu. Not complaining :) just not used to it.

If you haven't tried Nobu, well you really should! You are a foodie if you are reading my blog haha. Let me know what you think!

Miss my family

A week has gone so so fast!!! Felt like my family has only been here a day or two!! :(
Joe & I brought my family around Perth, sight seeing, shopping, eating and spending a lot of quality time together. But there's never enough time yea?

I will blog about our family trip in Perth soon! But I had to edit the photos first hehe

Anyway, here's a photo of us in Mundaring Dam.

Love this photo so much! I'm gonna print it out BIG!!! :D

The worst part of the holiday is when I sent them off to the airport...
I was crying so hard when I was driving home, when I was editing the photos and woke up from my nap! Miss my family hanging around in the house.. talking.. playing ping pong.. and lots of laughters.

Good thing is, I've now got a whole heap of pretty photos in my computer waiting for me to edit and hopefully I can print it into a book! :D

Going to be busy busy again! Yay!

The Grocer

Hi! Do you remember my blog post from a few days ago about the 5th Taste Umami Paste?
Well, I had a day off on Wednesday so I decided to visit the The Grocer in Claremont! :D

The Grocer,
as an importer and distributor, brings to Western Australia a wide range of excellent food and wine from around the world.

It is quietly situated on Brown Street just off the busy Stirling Highway.

The showroom is packed full of different kinds of products! You can check out their website to see what they stock.

The one thing that caught my attention was the selection of chillis available!

They've imported a wide range of different chilli varieties. And these are not just your average everyday chillis, they are probably some of the more unique chillis from all over the world! The spiciness of Chillis are by measured with the Scoville Scale and to help shoppers, The Grocer conveniently labels all their chillis with the relevant Scoville value.

As a guide, your typical regular chilli would be in the order of 1 to 3 thousand Scovilles. By comparison, one of the hottest chillis in the world, the Bhut Jolokia, exceeds 1 million Scovilles!!
For Chinese Malaysians, the commonly known "chilli padi" (or bird's eye chilli) has a Scoville rating of around 20,000.

Click on the images below for a better view.

They also stock some awesome stuff from Wild Country, a New Zealand company that does everything from jams to olive oil. You can sample their jam in-store too. They also have a Roast Tomato & Cumin Chutney, Onion Balsamic Marmalade and much much more.

They also have Tasmanian Honey!

Tasmanian Leatherwood Honey is one of the best Honeys in Australia and The Grocer is probably one of the few shops in Perth that have acquired the license to import this special honey. This unique honey utilises a low temperature preparation technique that gives it a special ultra-fine crystalline consistency, making it easy to spread and losing none of the nutrients.

Various oriental curry pastes and marinades on offer. These make long, complex dishes seem easy!

$85 Rougie foie gras (the red ones) for those with expensive taste buds.

3 Drops Olive Oil and Aceto Balsamic mixture. Specially recommended by the shopkeeper as one of the better blends available.

And finally, what I bought! The Taste #5 Umami Paste ($8.95) and some Gold Leaf for dessert decorations! I can't wait to try them!

So stay tune if you are interested to know what I'm gonna use them for! :D
