Homemade Gourmet Burger

I had the best homemade burger ever just now made by Joe.

It's Toasted Turkish Bread with homemade beef patty, homemade tomato relish, mayo, fried egg, melted gruyere cheese, pan fried bacon and fresh lettuce.

I still can't believe he actually made that! It's too pretty!!! XD

It's the time of the year again where the backyard is alive again with colourful flowers and greeneries~ The only different is I'm using a different camera this time to take the photos.
Photos taken last year using canon G9 around this time.
This year I've used my 50D. Loving it.

Lunch @ Sun Kwong & Asian Kitchen, Whitford City Food Court

Finally I get to shop somewhere that I have never been before after 5 years in Perth. Joe and I have drove about 33km from home to Westfield Whitford City Shopping Mall. I was quite surprised that the shopping mall was big and nice! It's like in between Westfield Carousel Cannington and Garden City in Booragoon. It was quite a pleasant place to shop! I like it there! I would go there every week if it's nearby where I lived :P

The only thing that makes me wonder was there's not many people shopping on the Saturday afternoon.. I felt like it was a weekday while I was there.

After walking around and shopped for a bit, we went to have lunch at Sun Kwong and Asian Kitchen in Food Court.



I was looking at the menu and thinking what to have for my lunch.. there's quite a lot of things to choose from. There's Curry Laksa, Honey Chicken, Nasi Lemak, Nasi Goreng and more..

After a few minutes of thinking, we finally made our mind and ordered Nasi Lemak and Nasi Goreng. Both Malay dishes.



By just looking at it, we were thinking and asking ourselves.. where's the boiled egg and sambal? Somehow we don't feel complete without egg and sambal for a nasi lemak dish.. we thought.. oh well.. just try and see how it taste like!
To be honest, Nasi lemak was nice and tasty! Ikan bilis (anchovies) was nice and crunchy. It's abit of a chinese-fied Nasi Lemak though.. Anyway, Joe finished up the whole plate :)



As for my Nasi Goreng, when I got it, I saw beans sprout, fish cakes, veges, peas, chicken chunks.. I thought.. wait a minute.. this looks like Special Fried Rice to me! Isn't Nasi goreng a malay dish? Didn't think much after that, I just digged in and took a bite because I was bit hungry.

It tasted nice! Not in the Nasi Goreng way.. but the Fried Rice way.. :P I know they both meant the same but it's just different way of cooking. One is Malay style and another one is Chinese style. Fried Rice was yummy and it was actually too much for me! I couldn't finish it. Maybe my stomach is getting smaller! :D



Asian Kitchen sells their homemade chilli sauce too. I had some, and it taste quite awesome :)



Overall, the food at Sun Kwong and Asian Kitchen was good. The reason why I said that is because I have tried other food court's Asian food from the other shopping malls and they fail in so many levels. But Sun Kwong and Asian Kitchen are definitely the better ones. It's hard to find good Asian food in the shopping mall food court here in Perth.

Although it wasn't authentic, but they definitely cook some delicious food there. I shall try Curry Laksa next time because it looks quite yum :)

The West Australian Good Food Guide 2011

Joe and I went to Hawker's Cuisine to have our dinner few days ago and we have ordered our favourites and a random dish.



Kam Heong Lala

Hawkers cuisine is always one of our favourite restaurant in Perth that serves the best Malaysian Chinese food. Always packed and the food is always good. Never fails. But why they didn't mentioned it in the The West Australian Good Food Guide 2011 book? Do the restaurant owner have to actually invite the food critic to do the review or the food critic just missed it? I wonder if the food critics actually told the restaurant that they are going to do a food review or just go there without telling the restaurant. Because it does make a difference in terms of service and quality of food.



Anyway, Joe got me this book as a gift and I will treasure it for a year (or maybe til the 2012 one come out) hehehe.. after reading this book, found out that my restaurant list is now no longer a page long. When can I ever finish trying out every single restaurant in Perth ey?

Dinner @ Bella Rosa, Carlisle

Bella Rosa used to be in Albany Hwy, Vic Park. But they have moved to Archer St, Carlisle.
Always been curious how's the food is like because I passed by this restaurant nearly everyday after work and it is always crowded!



You know there's one game really famous, sometimes they will show it on TV shows..I don't know what is it call but it's something like this. One person standing, looking up in the sky. One person passed by, curious and looked up the sky too. Then follow by the third and fourth.

Yea, I'm one of them. I got curious with this restaurant and went in and try their food.



Service was quite good. Fast and easy. Just be aware when you order water, they don't serve tap water. So, you gotto pay for it. Thats okay, for me, it's just water :)
While waiting for our food, we saw people kept coming in for take aways and dine in. Very very busy restaurant! We were thinking, this restaurant must be good ey, lot of customers!

Within 10 minutes, our food is served.



Veal Scallopini with Marsala sauce, Salad and chips.
I had this and I thought it's not as good as the one at Catalanos. Probably I shouldn't even compare because I did not enjoy it... The meat was bland, the Marsala sauce was watery. Chips wa good though. Very generous serving too!



Conchiglie
Scallops, Tiger prawns, snow peas and red capsicums in a creamy white wine sauce.
Another dissapoinment. The taste doesn't blend, with the description from the menu, it sounds really good. Red capsicums in smooth creamy white wine sauce. Came out blanched snow pea, red capsicum, prawns and scallops. It's a waste of the food. Such a good ingredient but they didn't take the afford to make the dish well.
Again, generous serving.

I don't mean to be mean or anything, it's a very very busy restaurant and I have never see a single night with no customers, but I just thought the food can be nicer rather than big portion.

Cafe Bella Rosa is probably a place for people who lived nearby or for quick and huge servings of food. Unfortunately not for a foodie.

My favourite sport

I played basketball with some friends today and I felt great! Morning sports with laughter is always my favourite!




I miss basketball! I used to play basketball after school for hours when I was a teenager. Not a pro player but at least I get myself fit by running around, laughing so hard and throwing balls! :D

Today I only managed to play for an hour and I feel like my backbone is cracking! Ageing mannn...

Maybe I should think positive! It's actually my 4 year old sports shoes that gave me problem!

Something is wrong with the Pao.

Mantou realised that she is a very abnormal Pao (bun).
Why?
That's because she feels like crying whenever she listened to 92.9's Gotcha Calls in the morning while driving to work!
I knowwwwww.. I'm supposed to laugh my ass off at those people who are angry and swearing to the radio host, but somehow my throat is not listening to me!! Probably feeling sorry for the one who got Gotcha from.

DO NOT DO GOTCHA CALL ON ME! I will be freaking FREAK OUT and kill u. XP

Mooncake Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, which is usually around late September or early October in the Gregorian calendar. It is a date that parallels the autumnal equinox of the solar calendar, when the moon is supposedly at its fullest and roundest. The traditional food of this festival is the mooncake, of which there are many different varieties.

Farmers celebrate the end of the summer harvesting season on this date. Traditionally on this day, Chinese family members and friends will gather to admire the bright mid-autumn harvest moon, and eat moon cakes and pomelos under the moon together.



I have celebrated Mooncake Festival earlier with my family while I was in Malaysia. It was one of my favourite Festival. Every year without fail, I will buy a few packets of colourful candles and new packet of paper lanterns when I was in Malaysia. I still celebrate it here in Perth but just for a while because it's too cold! I can't enjoy it properly.



This year was slightly different because I was in our new home and I can't lit any candles anywhere I want. (for photography and cleanliness purposes hehe)
and probably one more different thing is I didn't get to melt the candle together and shaped it in heart shape. Not sure if you know what I mean.. it's like 2 candles bent and join together to form and heart shape (without a cracked) Yes, it's a slow process. Melting it and shaping it at the same time. Love creating shapes from it. :)



I didn't do it this year as I was too busy lighting up the lanterns, photographing the candles, busy eating mooncake and drinking tea. But I still feel relax and in peace because I have my family with me.

I have just bought myself a lil piggy mooncake for today! and I'm going to EAT IT! XD
