Chinese New Year Cookies - again.

I have finally packed and gave my cookies away for Chinese New Year!
This recipe was given by my sis's friend Dinesh and it was very very yum! (Especially came out from the oven)

D knows that I have totally failed my shortbread and butter cookies for the first and second time, so he gave me his favourite Buttery Shortbread recipe to try.

Indeed, it was delicious! It was light and fluffy and it melts in your mouth! drool~~
The only problem was the cookies were easily crumble. But as long as handle it with care, it should be fine.

These small ones are for my friends! I have gave them to my friends at our CNY reunion dinner at the restaurant! I gave some for my relatives here in Perth too!

And this, I'm bringing it back home, for my family :)

Recipe for D's Buttery Shortbread:

Ingredients:
100g cornflour
130g plain flour
250g butter
50g icing sugar - sifted
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Tiny pinch of salt

180'C-12-15minutes

Method:
1. sift both cornflour and plain flour together. Put aside
2. Cream butter, salt and icing sugar together until pale and fluffy.
3. Add in sifted flour, bit by bit. Mix well after each addition.
4. Finally add in vanilla extract and beat until smooth.
5. Put mixture into a piping bag or simply use a teaspoon to shape it into a small round shape. (It doesn't have to be perfectly shaped) The whole idea is to have a rustic look to the shortbread.

Dinner @ Rockpool, Burswood

ROCKPOOL BAR & GRILL PERTH PEOPLE!
I was finally there yesterday night! (Yes, although I have hurt my back, I have taken pain killers to cure my pain, walk like a duck, sit like a robot. But I couldn't wait to go there since their opening day on Monday! So I had to go no matter what!)

What can I say? The experience was AMAZING. Very classy, Very Posh. Even the huge wooden door is sooooooo GRAND! When you open the big wooden door and look inside, you just feel like you are in the other world.

This is the pathway that you have to walk through to get to the dining area. There's nothing like this in Perth really. As you walked through, look at the glasses on your left and right, you might find something interesting. haha

You walked in, you will be greeted by the friendly wait staff. Then on your left will be a very impressive open kitchen! Neil Perry was working in there too at the pass calling service. He was really busy that night, I don't dare to ask him to come out to just have a photo taken with me! Joe told me not to disturb him while he is working, because he as a ex chef before knows that the worse thing is to work in the kitchen and still had to come out to entertain the guest. So, I had to walk away after dinner, looking at his signature ponytail, with sad and disappointed heart.

Why? because he promised me! :P He said See You Then.
He didn't see me at all! ahhaahha okay, thats enough :P

Anyway, the restaurant was huge! Every section will have a service table that caters only 7-8 tables. That is something that I have never experience before. Impressive. Service was excellent! The waitresses and waiter were absolutely friendly and makes us laugh and joke with us too.

Joe and Alan shared a bottle of red. Well, half bottle actually. I think it's pretty cute that they serve half bottle of red. Not many places do that.

We were served sourdough and butter to start with.

Then we had the freshly shucked oysters.
$3.50 each. It was heavenly fresh and delicious. I love it!

They were really detailed with the lemon too! They cover the lemon individually with the cloth to prevent seeds coming out from it. It's all these little things that makes the dining experience special.

I have taken photos of every dishes. But won't be able to comment on every dishes as it was my friend's dish. But I will tell you everything about mine :)

Entrees

Live Vongole Clams Steamed with Serrano Ham, White Wine and Flageolet Beans $30
My friend C said it was absolutely fresh and flavour was well balanced. She loves it.

Blue Swimmer Crab, Nectarine and Hazelnut Salad $30

Four Raw Tastes of the Sea $29

Warm Salad of Wood Fire Grilled Quail with Smoked Tomato and Black Olive $29
J said it was a lil bit too sour. But he loves the Quail a lot.

Alaskan King Crab Cocktail $35
As for mine, the entree blew me away with the sourness, saltiness and sweetness that pops in my mouth. Fresh King Crab, crunchy lettuce. The flavour was well blend. Totally loving it.

Mains

Redgate Farm Partridge with Roasted Peach and aged Balsamic Vinegar $39
C said she loves it! Very juicy and tender!

David Blackmore’s Dry Aged Full Blood Wagyu. All Wagyu From 9+ Marble Score Animals.
Sirloin 200g 17 days $110
I had a bit of it. No joke, my eyes went like bigger hahahaha.. it melts in your mouth! Okay, who am I kidding, it's Wagyu. But honestly, just a bite, you can feel the nicely marbled meat fat just oozing out and Oh So Yummyyy.

Della Gola Prime Grass Fed
T-bone 450g 34 days $45

Cape Grim Dry Aged 36 Month Old Grass Fed
Fillet 250g $55
As good as the Sirloin but of course not as "fatty" as the sirloin. But it's still a good piece of meat! Very juicy and tender! My friend G was in loveeee with it.

David Hohnen's Jarrahdene Pork with Mustard Fruits and Balsamic Vinegar $35
The pork was excellent! I love the crackling and well cooked. Definitely generous serving. Accompanied by the candied fruits, yum.

Potato and Cabbage Gratin $9 / $11
Everybody loves this and of course is Oh So Fattening hahaha but it's really really a good side.

Charcoal Oven Roast Pumpkin and Sweet Potato with Burnt Butter and Garlic Yoghurt $12
I personally love this one more. Nicely roasted and the texture is creamy and goes so well with the garlic yoghurt.

Wood Fire Grilled Broccolini $18
I love Broccolini. But it was my first time trying it grilled. My friend say weird, I say cool!
It gives a lil of the charred taste, and crunchy. But isit worth $18? I don't know.

Green Tea
Absolutely love the tea pot and cup.

Very elegant and classy. Definitely have a good time washing it too :P

Caramelised pop corn.
Nice complimentary after the meal. Sweet and crunchy.

Chocolate Jaffa Mousse Cake $20

Hazelnut Macaroon and Banana Ice Cream Sandwich $12

Fresh Strawberry Tart with Balsamic vinegar Ice cream $20

Black Forest Trifle $20

The dessert was nicely presented. Nice and simple. The only concerned was I think it was a bit too sweet. First thing that comes into my mind was "Oh Sweet"!
My favourite is the Balsamic vinegar Ice cream strawberry tart. I have never tried Balsamic Vinegar Ice cream before, and this is a nice one. Salute to the dessert master in Rockpool.

Overall, I love the ambience, love the friendly service, and definitely love the food too! What I would like to try next is the bar menu. They serve burgers too! Not just any random burgers.. but it's WAGYU burger.. :D

Definitely going back there!!

Opens lunch and dinner 7 days a week.

Ouch!!!!

You won't believe this. (Even I don't believe it too!)
I sprained my back. :(

Yesterday I was clearing up a room for my couz for the weekend, I carried a box of stuff out of the room with Joe. Somehow, my back (waist area) just had this needle pain not just for 1 second but like more and more needle poking me! I told Joe, my back hurts, couldn't carry anymore. So I let go after 4 seconds of carrying it.

I thought the pain will go away as long as I don't have the pressure on my back anymore, I was absolutely wrong. The pain got worse. I couldn't sit, I couldn't walk properly, and pain while I was lying on the bed! It just felt like my bone was going to break into 2! I was so scared I started to feel dizzy -_-"

After that I just went straight to bed and rest, hoping everything will be fine the next day. I was wrong again, still feeling pain the whole night, couldn't turn and move.

So, woke up this morning and saw Frances preparing to go to work. I thought.. I cannot go on like this.. I'm like having so much pain and started sweating, feeling dizzy again. So I asked Frances for help. Luckily I got Frances at home.. or else I think I am still in pain. She told me it will go away after a few days, and she gave me some painkillers. 2 types of pill and I feel better now.

I can't do anything today!!! :(
Can't lift heavy things, can't go to work, can't drive around, can't make cookies.

I wish I could just lay on the bed but it was soooooooooo hot today, I had to get up! 38 degrees burning hot day. and now, I'm sitting on the chair, blogging about my back pain experience.

Lesson of the day.
Carry things in the correct way. Do more exercise to strengthen your back muscle.
Please get well soon.. I need to go to Rockpool tonight... XI

Dinner @ Sense Lah, Malaga

Today must be my lucky day! Happy at work and had super nice food for my dinner!!
I had to blog about this restaurant because I couldn't find anyone that blog about it which I think it's weird!
I know it's probably out of the place, Malaga, but this restaurant is definitely a GEM!
I got to know about this place because of Joe's colleague who is also kind of a foodie. Without any hesitation, Joe and I went there tonight for dinner.

That place is call Sense Lah Malaysian Cuisine. Weird name isn't it? haha.. But pretty cool.
Owner is from Penang and he is super friendly to us! (After the dinner, we talked for quite abit haha.. he is a funny and nice guy)

Interior? Yea.. look really normal and nothing much to talk about.
Most important is the food right?

First up! Joe's favourite. Cendol. Joe LOVES it! The crushed ice was so finely shaved, it melts in your mouth! The taste is very good compare to other cendol around Perth.
Joe is cendol fan. So if he said the cendol is good and up to the standard, that means it is really good.

For Joe's dinner, he had Loh Mee. He heard from his colleague that Loh Mee is nice here, so he decided to give it a try. Joe's colleague were right! It was yum! Nice thick gravy with yellow noodle and bee hoon, egg and some other bits.

The best was the sambal that came with it. It's super authentic Lah~
Homemade Sambal! It's been a long time since I had that kind of sambal. Damn Shiok!

My dinner! ASAM LAKSA! My all time favourite!! So far, I haven't found good asam laksa that up to my standard in Perth until I tried this one!!! The flavour is all there! SOUR! HOT! Most importantly, the HEAT! (chilli) and lots and lots of sardine fish and pineapple. yummmm... I finished the whole bowl! Seriously, if you are after authentic asam laksa, look no further, this is the best asam laksa in Perth.

What's the next famous dish in Sense Lah? The ICE KACANG!
You know it's good when you see 3 guys (customers) sitting at the table and have ice kacang first. Slowly indulging the ice kacang and speak their hometown language to each other. Feel like home~~~ ^-^ another authentic flavour.

How can I not order Char Kuey Teow when I'm there? I had to order Take away so I can try it tmr lunch. heheheh.. I can't stuff anymore things in my stomach. TOO FULL. I had a try of the Char Kuey Teow, not bad at all! Kuey teow is cook just nice and texture was right. As for the taste, the Lap cheong (chinese sausage) might over power the whole dish. But I will try again tmr during lunch time. :D

I know it's abit far, but it's totally worth it! Cheap and authentic! Love it! Give it a try people if you like Malaysian food!

Happy Australia Day

Today is Australia Day!!! My friends and I have prepared a whole heap of delicious food for our picnic at Burswood Park!!

There's Steak Salad, Cold Cut meat, Salmon with crackers, meatballs, tomato salsa with baguette, KFC, snacks & fruits!

There were A LOT of people and we were lucky to even find a parking spot! Found a spot far from the park but that's okay! We carry everything and walked all the way to the park, then found a good shady spot.

It was relaxing and fun picnic at the riverside. :D
of course, camwhoring is a must. Gwen took the courage to borrow the aussie balloon hand from the group of girls sitting next to us. haha

There's tons more but I think you get the idea hahaha heads and the balloon hand. I got like 30 photos of it. I better don't bored you with it. hehe

The fireworks started at 8pm, ends at 8.30pm. Super long fireworks but damn beautiful.
Too bad, we were kinda at the other side from the fireworks so I couldn't take a clear photo of the fireworks. But, from this view, I found something nice too.

Crowds. River. 2 Black Swans. Fireworks. Beauty.

After the fireworks, we camwhore again, but in a different way! I bought some sparklers and we did light painting!!

I *heart* OZ Day!

How did you celebrate your OZ day?
